Jotxs y Recuerdos
Jotxs y Recuerdos (JYR), is a podcast and archive that documents queer life from the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) and other borderlands, which are liminal regions that experience the tension of overlapping worlds. JYR is created and hosted by Alexandra Nichole Salazar, a queer Chicana from Pharr, a city in the RGV. JYR is the first queer oral history podcast of the RGV.

Public Humanities Projects

Malflora Collective
Malflora Collective is Mellon Foundation-supported project and collective dedicated to preserving the everyday lives, memories, and legacies of Latina/e lesbians. We publish an annual magazine featuring cultural criticism, creative writing, and visual art by Latina/e lesbians and a podcast featuring pláticas with Latina/e lesbian writers, artists, activists, and cultural workers. Using archival and oral history methods, Malflora Collective asserts the significance of Latina/e lesbians as stewards of culture and social change.

Sandovalian Semillero Collective
The Sandovalian Semillero Collective takes its name from U.S. decolonial feminist philosopher Chela Sandoval. In 2024, we launched a podcast series that highlights the significance of Sandoval’s book, Methodology of the Oppressed—a manifesto and practical guide for social liberation. Each episode engages in close readings of the text, unpacking its arguments, challenges, and relevance to guide listeners through Sandoval’s visionary framework.

Mapping Violence
Conducted archival research, developed interpretive narratives, and designed exhibition panels for George I. Sánchez: “I Am the Man You Think I Am,” a public history exhibition at the University of Texas at Austin. As part of the Mapping Violence project, I researched and co-curated panels on Mexican American educational segregation in Uvalde, Texas, and the ongoing struggle for racial justice in education.
